The United States women’s national gymnastics team is a powerful legacy in sports. The team has won a medal in each Olympic Games since 1992. The first time that Team USA medaled in gymnastics was in 1948, when the team took home the bronze. The team has brought back the gold three times: in 1996, 2012 and 2016.
In 2021, the team will compete to once again win the gold medal for the United States. The team consists of Simone Biles, 24, who won four gold medals at the 2016 Olympics, Suni Lee, 18, Jordan Chiles, 20, and Grace McCallum, 18. The United States also has two individual competitors Jade Carey, 21, and MyKayla Skinner, 24, who will compete, but their scores won’t be counted toward the team scores. The team also has three alternates Kayla DiCello, 17, Emma Malabuyo, 18, and Leanne Wong, 17. Unforunately, the team’s fourth alternate Kara Eaker, 18, tested positive for COVID-19 and was forced to quarantine.
