Lin-Manuel Miranda is a number of things — a composer, rapper, and actor are just a few of the job titles he holds. He is from New York and was raised in the neighborhood of Washington Heights. He is also certainly no stranger to the Broadway scene.

Naturally, by the age of 25, he had composed a musical called In the Heights (2005), which is a story involving primarily Dominican-American characters residing in a neighborhood full of culture… aka Washington Heights… aka the exact spot where Miranda grew up. He worked on this project with Director Thomas Kail, and the two justly garnered a total of 13 Tony Award nominations for their work (four of which they won).

That is not where Miranda’s success ends, though, as Hamilton might arguably be even more popular than In the Heights. The 2015 musical had received a remarkable 16 nominations in total, and had won 11 awards. The 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama is just one of the many awards Miranda’s masterpiece has been honored with.
