Venus Williams, burn June 17, 1980, is one of the most famous and highly respected tennis athletes in the world. Venus is a seven-time Grand Slam singles champion – winning her first in 2000 at the Wimbledon tournament at the age of 20. She also holds 16 Grand Slam doubles titles with her sister, Serena Williams. Venus and her sister are both credited for totally revolutionizing the world of tennis and the types of athletes the sport encourages. Born in Compton, Venus and her sister moved with their family to Florida to pursue tennis full time when they were only children. Coached by her father, Richard Williams, Venus would go on to win a slew of titles outside of grand slams and garner a number of Olympic medals in her storied career.
