‘Power’s reign continues with the second spinoff ‘Raising Kanan.’ This spinoff is actually a prequel to ‘Power,’ the show that started it all. The show follows a young Kanan Stark, the character who would become Ghost and Tommy’s mentor, partner, and adversary, who ultimately dies in a hail of gunfire in the eighth episode of ‘Power’s penultimate season. 50 Cent played the character on ‘Power.’ When ‘Raising Kanan’ begins, it’s 1991 and Kanan is just 15 years old. He’s the only child of Raquel ‘Raq’ Thomas, a cocaine distributor with an emerging network of dealers across the city. The show stars Patina Miller, MeKai Curtis, Omar Epps, London Brown, Malcolm Mays, Hailey Kilgore, Joey Bada$$, Lovie Simone, Quincy Brown, Toby Sandeman, and Shanley Caswell. ‘Raising Kanan’ premieres July 18 on Starz and has already been renewed for season 2.
