¡Viva Jeidimar Rijos, ganadora de La Voz! Puerto Rico beamed with pride when Jeidimar, a native of the island’s town of Dorado, won the inaugural season of Telemundo’s Spanish-language adaptation of ‘The Voice.’ Jeidimar won alongside coach (and fellow Puerto Rican) Luis Fonsi. She claimed the song after performing “Preciosa,” a song composed by Rafael Hernandez and was made popular recently by Mar Anthony. Upon winning, the then 18-year-old Jeidimar was given a $100,000 cash prize and a contract with Universal Music Group. This was the first step in what would likely be a long and fruitful career for the young singer. Initially, she participated in ‘La Voz Kids,’ a singing competition featuring children (that ran for four seasons from 2013 to 2016 on Telemundo.) As a youth, she hoped to combine her two passions – music and medicine – into a degree of Music Therapy. In 2020, she partnered with The We Are Human Foundation (WAHA) and their Hispanic Star initiative. She recorded a version of ‘El Pendón Estrellado,’ the official Spanish-language version of ‘The Star-Spangled Banner,’ for the Hispanic Star’s campaign to recognize the Hispanic community amid America’s battle against COVID-19.
