Gloria Vanderbilt
Gloria Vanderbilt was an American heiress/socialite who became known for being an actress, model and artist. Her father was a railroad heir, so Gloria was born into money. However, he tragically died when she was very young, and she was raised by her mother until the age of 10. At that time, Gloria’s father’s sister took her mother to court to fight for custody. The custody battle was highly-publicized, and resulted in Gloria being taken away from her mom to live with her aunt, Gertrude, who she barely knew. She began studying acting and started doing some modeling. During her career as a model, she was photographed by some of the most well-known photographers in the world. Eventually, she started a career as a designer, and is best known for the line of jeans she created in the 70s. Gloria was married four times — she had two kids with her second husband, Leopold Stokowski, and two with Wyatt Cooper, who she was married to until his death in 1978. One of her kids with Wyatt is Anderson Cooper, and the other, Carter Cooper, committed suicide in 1988. Gloria was 95 years old when she died after a battle with stomach cancer, which had spread through her body, in June 2019.
