Beth Leavel is a Broadway icon who made her debut in 1985 as a replacement for Annie in ’42nd Street.’ Twelve years later, she made her original cast debut in ‘Crazy for You’ as Tess and an understudy for Polly Baker. In ’99, Beth played Mabel and Mrs. Bixby in The Civil War, before returning to ’42nd Street’ in 2001 as a standby for Maggie and Dorothy Brock. She eventually played Dorothy Brock in the production.
In 2006, Beth played Beatrice Stockwell in ‘The Drowsey Chaperone’ — the starring role for which she helped create a backstory. For this role, she received a Tony Award and a Drama Desk Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical.
Today, Beth Leavel is starring as washed-up Broadway star Dee Dee Allen in ‘The Prom.’ She has been nominated for the 2019 Tony Award, Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical.
