That would be the last time Barack would be giving a concession speech, as he went on to win the U.S. Senate seat for Illinois in 2004. After an electrifying speech at the 2005 DNC, he became a rising star in the party and declared his run for the White House in 2007. He won the party’s nomination in 2008 and beat Sen. John McCain in the general election in Nov. 2008. Barack became America’s first Black president, and Michelle our first Black First Lady.
On his road to the White House, Michelle was highly active in her husband’s campaign. Their teamwork made the dream work, and even as POTUS and FLOTUS, the couple’s love and devotion remained so strong. The pair openly showed affection and love towards one another, as well as deep adoration and respect. We’ve got a loot at the couple’s best photos, from his nascent politicals days to their life post-White House.
